Korean-Japanese 3D work with Cyborg She’s Ji Young-jun to open in 4 years

P2617-3Famed anime director Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999, X, Metropolis) has announced on Tuesday that he is directing a joint Korean-Japanese 3D animation project which will open within four years. Ji Young-jun, a producer of the Japanese live-action film Cyborg She (Boku no Kanojo wa Cyborg or My Girlfriend is a Cyborg), is planning and writing the project. Rintaro made the announcement at a press conference during the 2nd Korean International Creative Content Fair at Seoul’s Samsung-Dong COEX Mall at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. According to Rintaro, the aim of the project is to “defeat Hollywood” by making a work that will “express characteristically Asian feelings.” In the story, a Caucasian mother embarks on an adventure to save children who have been transported to a world of Asian mythos.

Rintaro is about to release another 3D-animated film called Yona Yona Penguin this December. Unlike the project he just announced on Tuesday, Yona Yona Penguin is a joint project between Thailand’s Imagimax, Japan’s Dynamo Pictures, and France’s Def2Shoot. Comic book writer Warren Ellis reported in July that Rintaro also directed a Wolverine anime teaser.
