We are pleased to announce the release of LyX 1.6.3. This is the third maintenance release in the 1.6.x series. Besides the usual improvements of stability, the highlights of this release are:

• tex2lyx is now able to read files in all latex supported encodings and transform them into the proper unicode-based format introduced in 1.5.0. This paves the way for many other improvements in LaTeX->LyX translation.
• The performance problems when editing a master with child documents have been resolved.
• LyX 1.6.3 introduces some goodies provided by Qt 4.5 (menu support for fullscreen mode in linux, close button on tabs). Of course these improvements (as well as some Qt-related fixes) only show up if LyX is compiled against Qt 4.5.

All users are encouraged to upgrade to this version.

Please find enclosed an announcement, some sources in tar.gz format (also .tar.bz2) and finally a gzipped patch (in .bz2 too). In a few days there should also be some binaries (mirror server).

Amarok 2.1 “Let There Be Light” released

No release notes although there are different types of versions of this program and this one is hard to locate on the main site but source forge has it for download.

No release notes but this is the webdev part of KDE – personally I am hopping they updated Quanta as I use that for editing web pages. I do feel I need to mention the version I am using is good.

KDE 4.2.4 released
On 3rd June 2009, KDE 4.2.4 was released by the KDE community. It contains many bugfixes, mainly in the e-mail and PIM suite Kontact and the HTML rendering component.

1/6/2009 – Released new stable version 4.77. The biggest new feature is that you can now specify hostnames and domain names instead of IP addresses in ruleset lines. You can also use wildcards and Perl regular expressions here too. There are various other new features and fixes as detailed in the ChangeLog.

Release 1.41.6 of e2fsprogs is available!

I am happy to announce a new release of the e2fsprogs distribution. All users of e2fsprogs are urged to upgrade to the 1.41.6 version as soon as possible, which can be found here.

This release contains a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the previous releases. For more details, see the release notes.

May 2009 – vsftpd-2.1.2 released

• vsftpd-2.1.2 is released – with a couple of regression fixes. SSL support was fixed so that the data connection timeout does not fire incorrectly, and the bandwidth limiter is applied consistently. An absent per-user config file no longer fails a login (as per v2.0.7 and earlier). The build was fixed for various systems such as Ubuntu 9.04. Note that v2.1.2 is the same as v2.1.1 but with a compile fix for users with libcap-devel installed. . Please refer to the v2.1.2 Changelog and vsftpd FAQ (frequently asked questions) for a list of common questions!
• After numerous requests, I now have a PayPal button for donations. If you use vsftpd, like it, and think it’s worthy of a donation, then click on the Paypal button on the left of the page.
• ftp.freebsd.org switched to vsftpd.
• vsftpd tarballs are now GPG signed by me.

Netatalk 2.0.4 is available!

The Netatalk development team is proud to announce version 2.0.4 of the Netatalk File Sharing suite. This is the latest stable version. It contains several important bugfixes, including a security fix for papd (see CVE-2008-5718), therefore all users are encouraged to upgrade their systems to 2.0.4.

In case, you want to upgrade an existing Netatalk 1.x installation, ensure you carefully read the upgrade guide before and follow the steps outlined there. If you made use of symlinks inside Netatalk shares consider setting up a test installation with 2.0 before migrating since Netatalk 2.0 provides no support for symlinks any longer.
