This is an interesting thought of mine. I had started this blog post a very long time ago, around the time that the Terminator Salvation movie was being advertised for. I was talking to some one last night about this idea so I thought I would finish this post. To start off with the thought I was was what if the terminator movies are a prequel to the matrix movies. This idea actually came from the animatrix movies and the movie about the second Renaissance, specially the second part where it was showing a war of man against machine. This war in my head was seen as the Terminator war. The only way for this to work how ever is to change the first part of the Second Renaissance and replace it with the Terminator movies. How ever there is a problem, the problem of how the Terminators are powered. Each Terminator are powered by a small nuclear battery type thing so blocking the sun would not effect the. Ok so I had to figure out a way for skynet to need humans as an energy source and create the matrix how ever I was not able to figure out how to get that to work so I stopped my blog post.
There is another movie that is more suited to being the prequel to the martix and that is the movie called Irobot. That movie flows nicely with the animatrix and seems to be a more detailed telling of the first part of the second renaissance. There are others who agree with me on that.
I wonder if any other movies could be a prequel to the matrix, might have to look and make a blog post bout them as well.

I could see how you could link I, Robot to the Matrix, but I suspect that’s partly because the movie veered quite a distance from the book (and also because the Matrix would likely not have been written if not for I, Robot). I recommend reading the book if you haven’t already. The movie didn’t do it justice.
I was not aware there was a IRobot book I will see if I can find it.

It’s “I, Robot” by Isaac Asimov. Shouldn’t be too hard to find. It’s a good read.
